Stern Spike 2 coin acceptor settings in parallel
Properly adjusting the coin acceptor on a Stern Spike 2 pinball machine is essential for the optimal operation of your machine. In this guide, we will examine two methods of adjustment, emphasizing their advantages and differences.
If we want to adjust the coin acceptor in parallel, then we must take the following into account:
Connector CH5
CN5 | Coin Slot | Input Pin | Comment |
---|---|---|---|
Coin 3 / Out 3 | Left coin slot | pin 9 | Used for the base currency 1€ |
Coin 2 / Out 2 | Center coin slot | pin 8 | Alternative coin insertion 2€ |
Coin 1 / Out 1 | Right coin slot | pin 7 | Useful for special coins or tokens |
Coin Enable/Inhibit (+) *** | pin 6 | control mechanism used to enable or disable the coin acceptance function |
AL55v parallel coin acceptor setup
- We define the value of each of our channels.
- the machine keeps statistics per channel
- We know how many coins were 1€ or 2€ or 0.5€
- Greater flexibility in bonus settings
Setting only one output on the AL55v coin acceptor
- We set a value in only one channel
- the machine does not keep statistics per channel
- we don't know how many coins were, for example, 1€ and how many were 2€
- Compatible with coin acceptors that do not have the ability to program

*** explanation of the enable / inhibit function
-
Enable/Inhibit :
- Enable : Activates the coin acceptor, allowing it to accept coins.
- Inhibit : Disables coin acceptance, making the coin acceptor inactive.
-
(+) :
- The "+" sign means that this function is activated by a positive voltage. To "Enable" the coin acceptor, a positive voltage must be applied to this pin (e.g. 12V or 5V, depending on the coin acceptor).
- If the pin remains without voltage or receives a negative voltage (GND), then the mode will be "Inhibit" (it will not accept coins)
coin acceptor schematics:
Coin acceptors with 10-pin connections use 6 outputs to indicate the type of coin that has been detected and accepted. One input, called "inhibit", is used to inhibit the acceptance of all coins. After a programmed coin is accepted, the corresponding output is activated for a short period of time. The active level is usually "low" and the time period is usually 100 ms. In AL55/66 coin acceptors, the user can program the time period from 5 to 1000 ms in 5 ms steps.
